    Gwynneth Paltrow absolutely did NOT deserve to win the oscar over Kate Blanchett, and I stopped paying attention to the oscars that year. I rarely see movies at a theater anymore, I rent them from the machine at the local supermarket...

      Same here - Cate Blanchett was brilliant in Elizabeth!
      I was shocked when Paltrow won for a movie that was sub-par at best.
      With the exception of Slumdog Millionaire, I rarely give any thought to what critics like, as they are usually wrong.

    Didn't Marisa Tomei win best supporting actress for "My Cousin Vinny" because Jack Palance read the wrong name on the envelope? I've heard that many times but not sure if it's really true or not.

    The Oscars and much more big award shows are just based on how much they do for the people who vote for the winners. They invite them over give them expensive food or drinks and that is what it gets based off not the acting or talent, it's a lot a sham now. Maybe it always was? It's all completely fake almost all the time they have to sometimes make exceptions to not cause an uproar, Hollywood are fake even behind the scenes.

    Take it from someone who knows, back then Kate was still unknown and Gwyneth was dating Ben they were the brad and Angela of the day and she was Americas sweet heart, her mom is famous so is her father and her famous father just died so she ends up getting what she did not deserve . Sincerely Hilary Swank.
