    Leslie Carter Overdosed: Police Report

    Leslie Carter Overdosed: Police Report

Leslie Carter died of a drug overdose on Tuesday, according to a police report filed Thursday.

Nicknamed "Ashton," Nick and Aaron Carter's 25-year-old sister was pronounced dead Tuesday evening in upstate New York.

Once an aspiring singer with the song "Like Wow" on the Shrek 2001 soundtrack, Leslie had a long history of mental illness and was on medication for depression, the police summary stated.

Her stepmother, Ginger Carter, called 911 on Tuesday from their Mayville, New York home, telling paramedics that Leslie (married mother to a 10-month-old daughter, Alyssa) was "asleep on her bed and not breathing."

Her father, Robert Carter, attempted CPR. Paramedics arrived and transported Leslie to Westfield Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:59 p.m.

That morning, Leslie was feeling sick and appeared depressed, Ginger told police in a later interview. She later discovered that Leslie had fallen asleep in the shower, and escorted her to bed. That afternoon, Ginger and husband Robert discovered Leslie still unconscious in bed, and called 911.

Ginger appeared to be under the influence during the interview, according to the report, and told authorities that she had taken 5-6 pills for her depression -- possibly Xanax -- that day.

A full investigation into Leslie's death is ongoing, with a complete autopsy planned.

"I am with my family spending much-needed time together as we deal with this private matter," grieving sibling Aaron Carter (who canceled planned performances in Off-Broadway show Fantasticks) told Us Weekly in a Wednesday statement.

In addition to little Alyssa and husband Mike, Leslie is survived by four siblings.

According to a family source, her family was "completely blindsided" by her death. "She loved her family, she loved her baby," the source adds of Leslie, whose 1999 debut album was never released. "She was happy stepping away from the show business and just living happily with her family."

When they found her falling asleep in the shower they should have called 911. Something they'll probably regret for the rest of their lives. Very sad that she died so young. Keep hearing more and more about people mixing different prescription drugs that should never be taken at the same time. Five or even Six Xanax alone wouldn't have caused her to overdose.

They were referring to Ginger, her step mother, when they referenced the 5-6 zanax pills. Ginger was under the infuence of five or six zanax when being interviewed about her step daughter. They did not say what Leslie overdosed on.

Can you imagine fighting addiction when your stepmom is taking 5-6 Xanies at a time? Seems they didn't care enough to clean house or lock up the drugs.

My condolences to her family. Depression is a hard battle to win, and very few understand how difficult it is to live with that. I hope that Leslie has found peace.

The psyc drugs are such a hit and miss. I have friends who took them and they got better. I have friends who took them and got a whole lot worse. What drug works for one person might make the next person worse. I won't judge anyone with mental anguish for how they chose to handle it. Its a real tough spot to be in. I turn to God but there were time when I didn't think I could do another day, couldn't even leave my house.

Nice comment Blue, and I hope you are doing well

I hear you Blue. I've been on antidepressants 11 years, since I was 19. It's only the last year I've gotten the right pill and dose and am able to enjoy life a bit more. It's a hard disease to treat, and especially to live with.

She was found asleep in the shower and nobody thought that enough reason to call 911!!!?

Look man, that's nothing. You have absolutely no clue what it's like to live with a mentally ill person. Your perception of what's normal and what's not is skewed from it, and passing out in the shower probably wasn't a first or the most extreme thing she'd done. 911 only does so much and I'm almost positive that they've called a rescue unit out at LEAST once before to help save her. The family gets to a point where they're weary of the drama and can only do so much and they usually let go of whomever it is before the person even passes, to save their own sanity. My heart and condolences go out to the family.

They were not making the claim that Leslie overdosed on 5-6 zanax people! Everyone keeps assuming they were talking about Leslie. If you go back and read it.. they clearly said that Ginger, her stepmother, had taken 5-6 zanax. She was under the infuence of zanax while answering questions about her stepdaughter. The article never makes a statement about what Leslie overdosed on.

See, that goes to show you that people don't read and first to point the finger. SMH That's how rumors get started. You hear one thing but say something else....just keep your mouth closed..........

I think the article meant Leslie took the Xanax NOT Ginger!

I was diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety disorder 15 years ago and suffered with it for years before that.
As for the people who are claiming everyone gets depressed and implying those of us who take medicine are somehow weak or junkies for it - being sad for a few days and having clinical depression are very different things. Without medication I wouldn't be able to function in society, not because I don't want to (depression isn't something anyone wants), but because I physically don't have the energy to move, even breathing feels like a chore, I'm not sad - I'm hopeless and it doesn't matter how good your life is or how bad - it is still hopeless. I explained to my doctor recently that I can look at my life and see it is good, I have a new house, a great husband, we have no debt, I just got accepted to school - I can recognize these are all great things - but I'm having panic attacks several times a week, and I go between sleeping for 12-15 hours a day and not sleeping for days - these are all signs my meds need changing - because when they are working - I still feel emotions but they aren't the end of the world, I sleep 8-9 hours a day, I have energy, I can breath. I think everyone is entitled to feel like that and if they require medication to have that life who are you too judge.
As for Leslie Carter, I remember her from the House of Carters show, her family seem very f-d up and even back then she seemed troubled.

Depression and Mental Illness are prevelent in this society, more people suffer than anyone knows---sympathy and empathy towards everyone who suffer from this instead of snide remarks and cruel jokes, when your own kid kills him/herself, it will be karma for all of your evil taunts. Karma pays everyone back, one way or another, I see it every day.

Well she was not that happy after all. What a pity so young, full of life and so empty inside. My condolences to her family and friends.

Severe depression is harrowing agony, pain so intense it can be felt physically--agony. Non-agitated depression is still profound torture--a heavy, suffocating darkness that makes even breathing an effort. Anyone who hasn't had to experience this--often struggling for their entire life with it--has NO idea what it's like. People who live with this should be regarded as heroes instead of stigmatized as "weak". Weak? Just BEARING it takes enormous strength! To be punished by society on top of the horrible punishment of the thing itself is just too cruel!

There are many people who slip into depression and because of the stigma attached, everyone around them does their best to sweep it under the rug....doesn't make it go away for the person feeling it. Such a beautiful woman with so much going for her...very sad : (

Mental illness does not get enough recognition. Speak up, speak out. Let's not be afreaid to admit it, talk about it, or fight it. Depression, and any other mental health problem is hell on the patient. Don't let them fight it alone.

ppl that have never had to go thru any of this, you have no idea and i wouldn't wish it on anyone...you hear about the end of the world and all this other bad stuff that goes on in the world, you know what scares me the most? mental health...there is no cure or magic pill...the antidepressants that r givin only mask it...all they do is even out the roller coaster ride but it doesn't fix it...as a clinical depressed person myself i know that you can get lost very quickly in your head where only death seems the way out and at the end of the the day is...until they have a cure for this and yes there needs to be ppl will cont to self medicate and take drugs bcuz they fir whatever time your high takes it all away....R.I.P hun and hopefully the family can piece there lives back together

Don't you think that anyone who falls asleep in a shower is a sign to take them to the hospital. Who falls asleep in the shower unless there is something seriously wrong with you. That is pretty odd that she didn't take her to the hospital don't you think?

I have live mental illness for 45 years. It is horrible thing to have. I hated it. I have taken some medications. I have too much depression/bipolar, and stuffs. There are too much rollercoaster in my life. I keep on fighting them. There are too much stigma in this society making them harder to receive help that they need the most. I say prayer to her and her family.
