The Bluth family may be known for their extravagant lifestyle, but the "Arrested Development" stars have never been known to own an ostrich. Which is why it was a surprise to see one of the African birds at the premiere of the show's fourth season.
The long-necked feathered friend was the surprise guest on Monday's red carpet at the TCL Chinese Theatre in L.A., along with "Arrested" stars Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera, David Cross, Will Arnett, Alia Shawkat and Jessica Walter ahead of the May 26 Netflix premiere of "Arrested Development's" fourth season.
According to USA Today, the ostrich was on hand because it has a cameo in the first episode of the new season. Creator Mitch Hurwitz said in October that when we rejoin the Bluths -- in real time, seven years after we left them in 2006 -- they have "destroyed the environment, the environment has destroyed them."
"There are a lot of ostriches," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I would describe this season of 'Arrested' as being bird-heavy."
But apparently Tambor, who plays Bluth patriarch George Sr., does not have a scene with any of the ostriches.
"I want to know what this ostrich is doing on the red carpet," he asked on Monday. "Is he in the show?"
All 15 episodes of the new season will debut on May 26 and be available on Netflix Canada. We certainly it has something to do with the "Arrested Development" chicken dance:
