Kathie Lee Gifford is in the dog house after dropping a puppy on its head this week.

The 59-year-old "Today Show" co-host was doing a segment on dogs up for adoption on Thursday when she couldn't resist grabbing one of the baby canines.

"I want the puppy!" Gifford exclaimed.

But then she took a whiff of the little creature.

"Oh, puppy needs a bath-y!" she quipped, before the puppy suddenly wiggled its way out of her arms, falling onto the floor -- head first.

Gifford's co-host Hoda Kotb covered her mouth in shock and stared off camera.

"Puppy takes a nose dive-y," Kotb joked when she had gotten herself together again. Gifford then went to pick up the poor pup one more time while apologizing profusely.

She addressed the incident this morning on the "Today Show" during which she payed a clip of the mishap.

"The puppy's OK, but I'm a wreck!" Gifford said.

This is not the first time the former "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" host has made a major misstep on the show. Remember her interview with Martin Short? In May, Gifford was forced to apologize to the Canadian actor on Twitter after forgetting his wife had passed away in 2010.

"He and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business. How many years now for you guys?" she said during their "Today Show" interview, before pressing him by asking if they were still in love. Though Short did not correct her at the time, Gifford later realized her error.

"I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family," she tweeted. "He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I'm so grateful."
