Here's a story of a lovely... Oh, forget it: CBS is readying a "Brady Bunch" reboot. And the unlikely man they've chosen to develop it? None other than the star of countless raunchy comedy movies, Vince Vaughn.
As if that juxtaposition weren't already strange enough, Vaughn allegedly came up with the idea on his own and teamed with writer Mike Mariano (of "Raising Hope" and "My Name Is Earl"), who will share executive producing roles with the actor and Lloyd Schwartz.
On the original series, Mike Brady was a widower and Carol's single status was never quite explained, as the network didn't want to say she was divorced. However, "The Brady Bunch" 2.0 will apparently will revolve around two divorcees who not only have existing children from their previous marriages, but share one of their own. Their ex-spouses are also a factor, and the set-up will reportedly reflect the way families have evolved since the 1970s.

With the success of shows like "Modern Family" that celebrate diverse and unique family dynamics, there's room for this type of programming. But CBS has seemingly really committed to "tradition" by scrapping the trendy single-camera format focusing mainly on the multi-camera look.
What's less traditional is Vince Vaughn at the helm. The actor has honed a career of adult comedy that the original Brady children wouldn't have been allowed to watch. True, the actor recently married in 2010, but considering his last film choice was the risqué comedy "The Watch," he's probably hasn't turned into quite a kid- and family-friendly comedian just yet.

But let's give Vaughn credit where credit is due: While "The Brady Bunch" movies of the mid-'90s were far funnier than they had any right to be (seriously! Look them up!), Vaughn still resisted the urge to follow the movies' lead by transplanting a '70s family in present day. We have a feeling watching the original Bradys try to work an iPhone would get old fast.
No word yet on when "The Brady Bunch" will begin taping.
