‘Bachelor Canada’ premiere: The 10 craziest quotes

"The Bachelor Canada" premiered Wednesday night, and despite Canadians' reputations for being politer and a little more passive, audiences were at no loss for drama. As Bachelor Brad Smith met the show's 25 ladies, jealousy manifested among the contestants, as favourites stood out and others were overlooked.

To sum up the official debut, here are the 10 craziest quotes from Episode 1 of "The Bachelor Canada."

    Bianka. (Citytv)

    1) "It was a pretty serious relationship. We kind of tried to work things out, but in the process, he got engaged to Kim Kardashian."
Evidently, bachelor Brad Smith isn't the first professional athlete that Bianka (from Mississauga, Ont.) could imagine herself dating. During the bachelorette's introduction, audiences learned that the 28-year-old nurse once dated Kris Humphries, the basketball player arguably best remembered for being one half of Kim Kardashian's 72-day marriage.

    2. "He looks like an athlete!"
"He's got great hair" and "he's so sexy" were just a few of the quotes coming from inside the limo as the bachelorettes pulled up, but it was one contestant's "He looks like an athlete!" that stole the show. Evidently, she will be validated to know that her intuition was correct: Smith is a CFL football player, like his father before him.

    3. "You can tell we're on 'The Bachelor Canada' because the first thing we're talking about is hockey."
You are correct, Brad Smith! Upon meeting 23-year-old cocktail waitress Laura B., the two began discussing the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens, thus truly encompassing the first dates of countless Canadians before them. Extra points for referencing the show they're on, too, therefore proving that Mr. Smith may have a pretty good sense of humour about this whole thing (or so we hope).

    4. "That's the best hug I've gotten so far!"
Said Smith, about half an hour into his introductory hug with 24-year-old Whitney from Calgary, Alta. As she clung on and the two swayed back and forth, audiences began to hope that, despite being hilarious, the actual hug was less uncomfortable in real life than it looked on TV. At the very least, it was more comfortable than the hand-holding that followed: instead of saying anything but "hi," Whitney grabbed both of Brad's hands and stared at him, instigating the next best quote from "The Bachelor Canada": "I love what's happening right here."

    5. "You look gorgeous!" and/or "I love your dress!"
You can't blame Brad for being nervous, and in all fairness, he could have done far worse than compliments about the bachelorettes' wardrobe or looks. At least this bachelor knows his fashion -- or, at least, he has a penchant for evening gowns and silky fabrics (and it's only the first night!).

    6. "I'm sorry I have to interrupt, but something's coming up -- somebody's looking for you. Will you please come with me?"
After piling into the house, Brad admitted that he was looking forward to hanging out and relaxing -- which is why 24-year-old Gabrielle from Oakville, Ont. felt the need to make the above announcement and lure him out into the courtyard alone. There, she proceeded to tell him how boring she thought football was (Brad: "That doesn't even bother me), before refusing to let him move on to another conversation. He did, but Gabrielle won't forget it.

    Rebecca "Bubba." (Citytv)

    7. "These b-----s are ser-i-ous!"
Rebecca ("Bubba") from Toronto, Ont. hit the nail on the head with this memorable one-liner. Not that name-calling is ever the answer, but we loved her surprised reaction after watching her fellow contestants move in on Brad like a bunch of hungry wolves. Had she never seen an episode of "The Bachelor" before?

    8. "Bubba don't chase ---- !"
There's always a most quotable contestant, and while Bubba didn't end up trumping any of the other ladies in the long run, her transformation from confident and positive to drunk and increasingly more insecure led to the censors working overtime. (It's OK, Bubba -- just be yourself!)

    9. "Tell him if he honestly wants somebody to be themselves around him, tell him to come find me."
And Gabrielle strikes again! Upon the arrival of Canadian Bachelorette Jillian Harris -- who had been enlisted to help Brad eliminate the first nine hopefuls -- Bianca had some choice words to pass along to her potential suitor. The only thing better? How unimpressed Whitney was, despite having delivered the memorable line, "Tell Brad he has a lot to look forward to" -- complete with a wink.

    10. "A girl that kisses a guy the first time she meets him is kind of skanky."
Oh boy, Gabrielle. As the night progressed and the drinks flowed, social filters were cast by the wayside which officially opened the door for cattiness and insults disguised as honesty. Cue Bianca, the official "I'm just being myself" spokesperson, who told Whitney what she really thought after Brad and Whitney's first kiss on the patio. Kudos to Whitney, who managed not only to turn her back, but walk away -- which most people probably wouldn't do in that situation.

And then the rose ceremony ensued. After delivering the First Impression rose to Whitney, Brad gave the remaining roses to Ana, Bianka, Britany, Chantelle, Gabrielle, Kara, Laura B., Laura F., Melissa Marie, Michelle N., Michelle V., Nicole, Sophie, Stephanie, Tia, and Whitney.

That means that Amber, Clarice, Fawn, Jessica, Mindy, Rebecca, Sandy, Tina, and Tracy were all sent home home, bringing the contestant count down to 16.

Tune in next Wednesday at 9 30 p.m. ET on Citytv to see how Brad Smith's quest for love continues!
