Who would choose to go to school during the holidays? Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, that's who.

The Hollywood power couple, who were snapped on vacation in Montreal earlier this week, took a detour to St. Catharines, Ont., on Wednesday to attend Gosling's mom's graduation from teachers college.

Gosling and Mendes were sneakily photographed at the Brock University graduation ceremony by starstruck fans, but the two refused to do interviews.

"This is my mom's day," Gosling reportedly told one journalist.

But that didn't mean the 31-year-old London-born actor was particularly staid when his mother, Donna, was called up to the podium. Gosling reportedly hopped up from his seat, clapping and taking photos. He and Mendes then left the event early.

"He requested privacy for himself and his family," the university spokesman told the Niagara Advance. "He told me this was his mom's day and the graduates' day. He didn't want to be a diversion."

Gosling, who attended his mother's undergraduate ceremony at McMaster University last year, took advantage of his location by taking Mendes to nearby Niagara Falls. They reportedly rode the Ferris wheel before meeting back up with his mom.

As of Thursday, Canadian fans can finally calm down a little, as Gosling and Mendes flew out of Toronto early this morning.
