Justin Timberlake recalls teenage shenanigans with former roommate Ryan Gosling

Though Justin Timberlake  starred in "The Mickey Mouse Club" alongside future girlfriend Britney Spears and singing sensation Christina Aguilera, the performer's closest bond was actually with actor Ryan Gosling. Timberlake revealed on Thursday's episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that Gosling was not only Timberlake's co-star and friend, but he was also his roommate back in the day.

The pair starred on "MMC" between 1993 and 1995; Timberlake was 12 when he joined the cast, and Gosling was 13. During their second year on the show, the pals became roommates.

"His mother had to keep her job in Canada the second year that we were on the television show, and my mom was his guardian for, like, six months, and so we actually lived together when we were that age," Timberlake told DeGeneres. "We were probably a little closer than the rest of the kids that were on the show, just because we had to share a bathroom."

Timberlake also revealed that he and Gosling fancied themselves rebels during their early teens.

"We used to do terrible things. We thought we were so cool when we were on 'The Mickey Mouse Club.' Looking back on [these things], it wasn't as bad as I thought they were at the time," said Timberlake. "We stole a golf cart, and we were like, 'Yeah, man, we stole a golf cart.' But, meanwhile, you know what it's like on a back lot -- there's just golf carts everywhere."

Why'd they steal the golf cart in the first place?  The "Cry Me a River" singer said he and Gosling drove it to get milkshakes. Aww!

Today, Timberlake still feels nothing but love for his former roomie. He described Gosling as "one of the best actors of our generation."

But Timberlake is doing pretty well in the acting department, himself -- the star was visiting "Ellen" to discuss his role in the sci-fi flick "In Time." With starring roles in other films like "Friends With Benefits" and "Bad Teacher," perhaps Timberlake will get to reunite with Gosling onscreen one day.
