It seems that sparks flew when beauty met brawn at the 2012 NHL Awards in Las Vegas in June. After a chance encounter at the event, Toronto Maple Leafs player Joffrey Lupul and "Dancing With the Stars" regular Cheryl Burke are now an item!
Ballroom dancer Burke, 28, was hosting the event when she met Lupul, also 28, who was an award finalist. They recently confirmed their relationship at the Jockey for a Cause event in California, where they canoodled, chatted with fellow celebs like Laura Prepon and Natasha Henstridge, and were generally cute.

It's obvious what Lupul sees in Burke: She's beautiful, fun, fit, was nominated for two Emmys for her choreography on "Dancing With the Stars," and was also a two-time champion on that show (also earning 88 perfect scores).

And what does Edmonton-born Lupul bring to the table? Well, even though the Leafs' 45-year losing streak is the longest in the league, he's actually not a bad player himself. While playing for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Lupul made a historic goal in the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Colorado Avalanche. He's a leader in points within the League, and an alternate captain for the 2012 NHL All-Star Game.

Lupul is also pro gay rights, appearing in the 'You Can Play' video to fight homophobia in sports. This August, he's also hosting his sixth annual charity golf tournament to raise money for several different Canadian organizations. He likes music and women with a sense of humour -- and his nickname is "Loops," which is pretty adorable.
Fingers crossed this athletic duo will go for gold (rings) and she won't have to go on "The Bachelorette" after all!
