When Ryan Gosling announced he was taking a break from acting last week, you could almost hear his denizens of fans start to hyperventilate. Thankfully, they now have somewhere to turn.
British online movie service Blinkbox has launched "The Gosline," a 24-hour hotline for heartbroken followers of the Canadian "Drive" star allowing them to find succor in the clips of Gosling's various films. On Friday, the company tweeted an ad for the news service with the message, "To help console Ryan Gosling fans upset by the news he is taking a break from acting we've set up #TheGosline."
On Monday, Blinkbox tweeted that the number -- 07867 238825 (watch out! calls are reportedly charged at standard rates) -- had been "busy over the weekend" and is still accepting calls, though there has been no mention of how long the service will last.
Radio DJ Jon Williams, who is based out of Victoria, B.C. and has a show on The Zone @ 91-3, called the hotline this weekend live on air. After he dialed the U.K. number, the following message could be heard playing on the other end of the line, "It's not gonna be easy, it's gonna be hard. We’re gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you." The line is from "The Notebook," of course.
The phone line was set up two days after the Associated Press published an interview with Gosling in which the 32-year-old Ontario native claimed he was acting "too much" and needed to take a breather.
"I've lost perspective on what I'm doing," he said. "I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does."
Speak for yourself, Gosling! We are still smarting from your three-year hiatus in 2007-2010!
