Poor Nickelback. First, the band Canadians love to hate were forced to defend their right to exist. Now, they have to defend themselves against reports that their frontman is dead.

To the band's credit, they're doing it with smiles on their faces.

Reports surfaced yesterday that 37-year-old Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger had died while vacationing in the Turks and Caicos after allegedly hitting a concrete boat slip while he was on his Jet Ski.

Although the originator of this rumour gets points for creativity, Kroeger is currently on his North American tour with his band to promote their seventh album, "Here and Now."

Kroeger played Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday and appeared to be in New York when the rumor went viral on Wednesday. Seemingly in response to the hoax, the band tweeted a tongue-in-cheek message about heaven yesterday from the Big Apple.

"Jon Bon Jovi said Heaven looks like New Jersey," read the tweet. "Today, it looks like a beautiful Spring day in NYC. We'll see you (all 4 of us) Thurs @ MSG."

The hoax comes less than a year after Kroeger was reported to have passed away in July 2011 along with former partner Marianna Goriuk.

But don't worry, Nickelback fans! Kroeger believes his number won't be up for at least another three years.

"It's been foretold," he told Playboy in 2008. "I will be dead on my 40th birthday."
