As fires blazed in Montreal during the Quebec student protests this weekend, Canadian celebrities turned up the heat on the international stage.

Montreal band Arcade Fire and Quebec filmmaker Xavier Dolan all donned red squares, the symbol of the movement against rising tuition fees, in solidarity with the strike.

On the May 19 finale of "Saturday Night Live," all seven members of Arcade Fire wore red squares on their lapels (with Régine Chassagne adorning hers with a white peace sign) as they performed "The Last Time" with Rolling Stones's front man Mick Jagger.

UPDATE 2:45 p.m. ET: omg! Canada contacted Michael Murray to obtain confirmation of this story. Murray replied with the clarification that his Ryan Gosling story is fictional.

"What I wrote was a piece of fiction. I typically write comedic, celebrity infused fiction for Pajiba, where it is known by the audience that I am mining a ground between fact and fiction," Murray wrote. "I'm sorry if this misunderstanding has caused you any problems."

PREVIOUSLY: He may break up fights and save women from being run over in New York, but on his home turf, Ryan Gosling is a lot less friendly. And according to one Toronto cyclist, the 31-year-old Canadian actor is downright confrontational.

In a new post on Pajiba, Toronto writer Michael Murray reveals that Gosling told him off for riding his bike on a city sidewalk.

"You shouldn't be doing that, you know," the "Drive" star reportedly told Murray as he rode along the footpath in the Annex, an affluent community in the downtown core.

"Give me a break, Gosling!" Murray responded ("I have no idea why I said this," he wrote).

You can't read a magazine, go on the Internet, or turn on the TV nowadays without seeing some kind of fairy tale adaptation staring back at you. Vanessa Hudgens's "Beastly"and Amanda Seyfried's "Red Riding Hood" came out last year. Ginnifer Goodwin's "Once Upon a Time" is getting a second season on ABC. And there's a whole orchard of poison apples in movie theatres, with Julia Roberts's "Mirror, Mirror" and Kristen Stewart's "Snow White and the Huntsmen."

But Vancouver actress Kristin Kreuk was in on the trend a long time ago. Her first role was Snow White in a 2001 made-for-TV movie, and she spent years as Lana Lang on "Smallville" (another adaptation on a beloved story, this time "Superman"). Although the actress has kept relatively quiet since leaving "Smallville" in 2009, this fall she'll return to the small screen in yet another fairy adaptation. This time, it's the CW's version of "Beauty and the Beast," based on the 1987 CBC series of the same name, which starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman.

The things that Justin Bieber fans will buy with their own money never cease to surprise us.

It appears that there is a company called Celebrity Gene, which claims to sell pendants containing the DNA of various celebrities, including Michael Jackson, Princess Diana, and Marilyn "Munroe." According to the company's website, the pendants are "100 percent authentic and done by top researchers in the ancient DNA analysis field" and sell for $120 to $250.

And now, for all those who wish to have the life blueprint of their "Boyfriend" with them at all times, the company is now selling Justin Bieber's DNA, too.

They used to be the most obvious "secret" couple since Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, but now, Lea Michele and Cory Monteith have finally lifted the lid off of their relationship.

The "Glee" co-stars packed on the PDA during a hockey game in New York on Wednesday night. The couple, who play on-screen sweeties Finn Hudson and Rachel Berry on the Fox series, kissed and cuddled as they watched the New York Rangers get creamed by the New Jersey Devils.

"Let's go Rangers!!!!" Michele tweeted during the match.

She may be accused of stalking Alec Baldwin, but Genevieve Sabourin appears to have had her eye on his fiancée as well.

In newly released emails, the French-Canadian actress seems to have set her sights on Hilaria Thomas in order to win over the yoga instructor's famous husband-to-be.

"I will change my name and take yoga classes you know where and I'll become HLT best friend, faster then (sic) you know," Sabourin allegedly wrote on March 20. "I'll use her ego."

Though the "30 Rock" star had not yet announced his engagement to Thomas, Sabourin appeared to consider it a done deal.

CBCFor three decades Mike MacDonald has supported himself by making people laugh, but now he needs their support to live.

The 57-year-old stand-up comedian from Ottawa is fighting to survive after hepatitis C shut down his liver and kidneys last month.

Needing a liver transplant and unable to work, MacDonald's friends launched an online campaign to raise $10,000 for his living and medical expenses. The site went up  Sunday and received more than $21,679; it's now aiming to reach $30,000.

"I never expected this to happen, it's just snowballed into this thing," a tearful MacDonald told the CBC.

Three traditional dancers from a tiny reserve have suddenly become provincial icons for Manitoba and First Nations youth across the country.

Dallas Courchene, 16, Brandon Courchene, 18, and Vince O'Laney, 17, had been performing their traditional dance called jigging since childhood, but only formed their dance troupe Sangkeeng's Finest when they heard about upcoming auditions for the TV show "Canada's Got Talent." On Monday night the three teens were the surprise winners of the talent show, winning prizes that included $100,000, a Nissan GT-R, and a show in Las Vegas.

Yesterday, Sagkeeng's Finest received a hero's welcome home at the Winnipeg airport, with fans waving signs and cheering for them as they arrived.
