Last summer, “Call Me Maybe” was the anthem nobody could get sick of — no matter how many lip-synching, choreographed-dancing videos were posted on YouTube. As summer 2013 is about to hit, Mission, B.C.’s biggest hit-maker, Carly Rae Jepsen, marked her big break’s one year anniversary with a change — a hair makeover.

“At the Salon- doing something drastic :)” she mysteriously tweeted last week. Later, she made the big reveal on Instagram – “I've always wanted to go red!”

It seems that eternity wasn’t in the cards for “The Vampire Diaries” stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. Us Weekly is reporting that the two actors have ended their three-year-relationship.

A source reportedly told the magazine that Dobrev, 24, and Somerhalder, 34, have parted ways romantically but "will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started." Neither Dobrev’s nor Somerhalder’s camps have commented on the report, but this tweet from Somerhalder on Thursday doesn’t bode very well for them.

It’s sad, of course, but fans of the couple have been on split alert for a while now. Once there were proposal rumours, but now breakup speculation has been hovering over one of Hollywood’s favourite couples closely for a while now.

Ontario native Avril Lavigne has claimed the coveted cover of HELLO! Canada's 50 Most Beautiful Canadians issue this year, but Chad Kroeger, Lavigne's Albertan husband-to-be, did not even make the list.

"Avril and her fiancé Chad Kroeger have been great friends to HELLO! Canada, their wedding is just around the corner, and our exclusive (and rare) photo shoot, on the eve of Avril's return to the pop charts, was nothing short of magical," the magazine gushed in a statement.

While 28-year-old Lavigne rubbed shoulders with other comely Canucks like Rachel McAdams, Ellen Page, and Emily VanCamp, Kroeger was passed over for the likes of Justin Bieber, Michael Bublé, and (of course) Ryan Gosling.

The 38-year-old Nickelback front man and his soon-to-be bride have not yet commented on the HELLO! cover, but the magazine's deputy editor spoke to 680 News about Lavigne, who also made People's 50 Most Beautiful People list in 2006.

"Cover girl Avril Lavigne — what a year she is having," Susan Catto said. "Not only is she engaged to be married, she is coming out with these hits and a new album on the way.”

Selena Gomez is on and off about Justin Bieber in more ways than one. Not only is the 20-year-old “Come and Get It" singer frequently splitting and reuniting with the Canadian pop star, but she now appears to be giving paradoxical information about their relationship.

For the June cover of InStyle magazine (on newsstands May 17), Gomez spoke about her "crazy and very intense" romance with Bieber, which was recently rekindled.

“It’s uncomfortable that everywhere I go, people know,” she told the publication. “I don’t like that. But Justin and I never really focused on the attention."

Winona Ryder may have been spending time in Canada for the past decade without our knowledge. The 41-year-old "Iceman" star has revealed in the new issue of Interview magazine that her parents moved north of the border in 2004.

And what caused Ryder's parents to leave the United States?

"My parents are awesome, but they're pretty left-wing. They live in Canada now. They moved when Bush was re-elected," Ryder explained. "You know how a lot of people said they were going to do that? My parents actually did it."

When Justin Bieber fans attack, they mean business. Particularly when their target is the Biebs himself.

During the "Believe" singer's Dubai show on Sunday, one Belieber was recorded running onstage and trying to get a piece of the singer. The video shows Bieber at the piano as the fan rushes to him and appears to at least touch him briefly before security guards arrive and grab the man, upending the piano in the process.

According to Us Weekly, the man was detained by the guards, and the Biebs went on with the show. He even returned for an encore to perform "Baby" and "Boyfriend."

There’s nothing “Ironic” about Alanis Morissette’s marriage to Mario “MC Souleye” Treadway – they looked super happy and super in love in Hawaii over the weekend.

The Ottawa-born “Jagged Little Pill” singer uploaded a picturesque photo to her Instagram feed on Friday, along with the caption, “happy birthday to my angel husband. xooxoxox @souleyephotos I love you honey.” The couple celebrated Treadway’s thirty-third birthday with a family trip to Hawaii, along with their two-year-old son, Ever.

The happy threesome was spotted swimming and playing on the beach, and Alanis and Mario – about to celebrate their third anniversary on May 22 – even got to sneak a few cuddles and kisses on their own. And they could barely keep their hands to themselves as they walked along the island’s signature sandy shores.

After all that negative PR, it's nice to hear a positive Justin Bieber story.

The 19-year-old "Boyfriend" singer is being praised by his Turkish fans for stopping his Istanbul concert two times on Thursday. The gesture was to honour the Islamic call to prayer, E! News reports.

"Turkey was right," Bieber tweeted following the gig.

Local Beliebers took to Twitter to thank the Canadian pop star, who is himself a devout Christian, for respecting their faith.
