Aaron Sorkin intimidated Alison Pill into learning her "Newsroom" lines without even being in the room.

In a new interview with New York Magazine's Vulture blog, the Canadian actress revealed she stuck a photo of the HBO show's creator to a mirror as a "trick" to motivate her to learn her lines.

"In our opening day -- not really opening day, but the first day we had our read-through, Aaron had made sort of little survival kits for us, which included our script and a head shot of him," Pill explained. "I was staying at this corporate-y apartment in L.A. and there was a mirror right by the sofa. I just put his headshot in the mirror."

So, when the 26-year-old Toronto native found herself on the couch cheering on the Habs, "every so often I'd be looking and be like, 'Oh God! Aaron wants me to learn my lines.'"

But Pill, who is set to wed fellow Canadian actor Jay Baruchel this summer, denied she was motivating herself using fear, "but the respect for: 'You know what this means. Please do this well; you're going to be upset with yourself if you don't.'"
