Is it wrong to be slightly afraid of an 11-year-old? Because Willow Smith is all attitude in her new video for "Do It Like Me (Rockstar)," and we're definitely intimidated.
Already the almighty ruler of the playground, Willow sets her eyes on bigger lands to conquer in the video -- specifically Paris, New York, and London. She sports a mohawk on rooftops, in front of the Arc de Triomphe, in a subway station, on a Parisian bridge, and in a dingy underground dance hall (you have to squint to see the kiddo amid the full-grown adult backup dancers). Edgy sunglasses, a studded leather jacket, and various fashion-forward outfits actually make her fit into her backdrops and make us feel infinitely uncool in comparison.
Then, older bro Jaden makes a subtle cameo at about the 2:55 mark, just to remind us that Willow has swagger flowing through her veins and her family tree.
"I make the rockstars and the pop stars/Wanna do it like/Wanna, Wanna, Wanna do it like me/Wanna do it like me/Wanna do it like me/Me, me, me," says Willow in the chorus, which could actually make for quite a nice skipping-rope chant.
After the success of her first single, "Whip My Hair," Willow was predicted to be pop's next sensation. But "21st Century Girl" and the Nicki Minaj collaboration "Fireball" failed to make its expected impact, and Willow's debut LP, tentatively titled "Knees and Elbows," was delayed indefinitely after Jay-Z's label Roc Nation pushed back the release date from April 3.
Will "Do It Like Me (Rockstar)" be the track to catapult her into lifelong fame?
