Beau Mirchoff, 23, is reliving some of those tough times now on MTV's high school-centered series "Awkward." He plays Matty, a popular jock who's in love with the main character, Jenna, played by Ashley Rickards. At the end of the first season, Jenna ended up choosing Matty's best friend over him, so when we pick up in the new season Thursday, things between them are a little uncomfortable. "It's a confusing, heartbreaking time for him," Mirchoff tells omg! From Yahoo!, adding that he still thinks Jenna and Matty have a chance.
Mirchoff was such a fan favorite last season that he's been nominated for a 2012 Teen Choice Award in the category of TV Breakout Star: Male. Teens can vote once a day for the award until the ceremony airs live on Fox at 10 p.m. ET on July 22. The nomination reminded Mirchoff of his own schooldays in British Columbia, Canada. "I remember in high school, I got an award for football, and since then I haven't had an award for anything. So I thought I was done with the whole accolades thing, but apparently not," he jokes. "It's really cool. It means fans like the show, and I guess some people like Matty, so it makes me feel good. I couldn't be any more happy." Viewers are going to be happy, too, when they see the new episodes, Mirchoff says. "It's better than Season 1, and they're going to enjoy everything we have to bring this year."
