The "Showgirls" curse has been broken, at least according to Elizabeth Berkley. On "Dancing With the Stars" earlier this week, the 41-year-old actress broke down after being reminded of her universally panned 1995 film.
"It's a sexy dance, and the choreography reconnected me to when I was just a young woman and took a risk creatively and did 'Showgirls,'" Berkley said in an interview that aired during the ABC show on Monday night.
In the camp-tastic Paul Verhoeven film, Berkley played a Las Vegas stripper turned showgirl, a role that got her unofficially blacklisted in Hollywood.
"Little did I know when it came out that it was going to be met with such criticism and such a backlash," the actress said. "With that time came a lot of doors that slammed in my face, where it was very frustrating not being able to perform for people and dance for people. And it was painful, it hurt."
