Oprah Winfrey is famous for giving her fans free things, but she doesn't normally give away her own things. On Wednesday, however, during the Ottawa stop of An Evening With Oprah Winfrey, the 59-year-old media mogul kicked off her shoes and gifted them to one of the 15,000 people who had crowded into Scotiabank Place for her talk.

“Who wears a size 10½?” Winfrey reportedly asked after admitting that her feet were hurting in her stiletto heels. While several members of the crowd offered up their own shoes, she refused to take them — but she did give the purple Manolo Blahniks to ex-radio-host Sandy Sharkey.

    • Canadian playwright Greg Kramer dies at 51

Canadian playwright and actor Greg Kramer has passed away at the age of 51.

Canadian playwright Greg Kramer has died. The 51-year-old renaissance man (he was an actor, director, songwriter, and magician, according to the Globe and Mail) passed away on Monday, the day before his most high-profile play yet was set to start rehearsals.

Kramer was reportedly discovered at his apartment in Montreal after he failed to show up to rehearsals for "Sherlock Holmes," starring local actor Jay Baruchel in the titular role. Kramer was set to play Inspector Lestrade and rehearsals were shut down the day he was found.

"RIP Greg Kramer," tweeted Baruchel on Tuesday. "You will be missed and I will do my best to pay tribute to your words and the wonderful characters you put on the page."

Montreal police have reportedly ruled out foul play -- Kramer was HIV positive, had already fought cancer twice and had had one lung removed. He worked until the very end.

Oprah Winfrey may be the most influential celebrity of the year, but some Canadians are intent on swaying popular opinion.

The 59-year-old media mogul is set to speak to 14,000 fans on Thursday at Ottawa's Scotiabank Place as part of her "An Evening with Oprah Winfrey" tour, and the Canadian Foreskin Awareness Project will be there in opposing force, the Ottawa Citizen reported.

Yep, you heard right: CAN-FAP, which opposes baby circumcision, is protesting Winfrey's appearance. The reason? The talk show host's endorsement of SkinMedica -- namely, TNS Essential Serum, an anti-aging product that Winfrey calls her "fountain of youth" and allegedly uses skin cells sourced from baby foreskin. The product sells for a whopping $260 per ounce.

Estella Warren wasn't displaying particularly model behaviour this weekend, according to a report in Us Weekly.

The 34-year-old Canadian model and actress, best known for her performance in the 2001 film "Planet of the Apes," got into a minor kerfuffle with actress Jaime Pressly at a birthday party on Friday at a private L.A. residence.

The cops got involved after Pressly reportedly discovered, with the help of a "find my phone" app, that her assistant's missing phone was in Warren's possession.

"Jaime was trying to get it back," an insider told the gossip magazine. "She wasn't agressive, but she was forceful."

    • Ryan Gosling’s PETA causes now include cows, chickens, and turkeys

      Steve Grantiz/WireImage

Ryan Gosling doesn't think milk does a body good -- at least, not for the cows it comes from.

The 32-year-old "Place Beyond the Pines" star sent a letter earlier this week to the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF). In the letter, the actor implores the federation to cease the "barbaric practice" of dehorning cattle by choosing instead to breed hornless (aka polled) cows.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) published Gosling's letter, which was dated April 1 and addressed to Jerry Kozak, president and CEO of NMPF .

"I was shocked to learn from my friends at PETA about a practice in the dairy industry called 'dehorning,' which involves painfully burning horn tissue or gouging cows' horns out of their heads, often without the use of any painkillers," Gosling wrote. He added, "The American Veterinary Medical Association, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and third-party animal welfare auditing groups recognize the benefits of polled genetics for the dairy industry, so there is absolutely no reason -- and no excuse -- for the cruel, unnecessary practice of dehorning to continue."
