Just a few days after its release, Brad Paisley's song "Accidental Racist" has become the country singer's most talked-about tune.
“I’ll try to put myself in your shoes/And that’s a good place to begin/It ain’t like I can walk a mile/In someone else’s skin,” sings the country star. (Read the full lyrics here.)
“I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but there’s some racial tension here and there,” Paisley told Ellen DeGeneres while appearing on her talk show, going on to talk about his friendship with LL Cool J, who is also featured on the controversial song. “I felt like when we were writing the song, I didn’t really feel like it was up to the media, or Hollywood … or sorta talk radio to deal with that. I think it’s music’s turn to have that conversation.”
